All the kids who grew up in the 80s and liked monster movies, they sure know about Tremors. But I’ve seen that new generations never heard about it, and I think it’s fair to try to give some voices about it, because it’s a little gem worth to see. When I was a kid, there were a few movies that I watched with passion at least once a year. Masterpieces of the underground culture like Terminator, Predator, Ghostbusters, Willow… but also Tremors. It’s been over a decade that I didn’t see it, until yesterday I pleased myself with it one more time. And I must say time didn’t damage it at all.

The plot takes us to a little town in the middle of nowhere in the USA. 2 handyman workers are sick and tired of their shitty jobs and are dreaming of running to the big city to start over. Kevin Bacon (in one of his first lead roles) plays a dreamer young man who is craving to find his centerfoil barbie chick and retire from his life of dust and dirt. And Fred Ward’s character behaves like his old brother, his voice of wisdom, a mid age man with no so big plans or ambitions, with no roots, who also can’t wait for the day he starts over. But their dreams of freedom get truncated when a plague of gigantic underground bugs show up to eat anything they can find. So our 2 anti-heroes join forces with a nerdy student young lady to fight against the threat from below.

A very funny movie, very simple in terms of scenario (pretty much, all the action happens outdoors), with great chemistry between the characters, and thrilling scenes of the group of low lifes running away from the creatures. And personally I love the design of the underground slugs, the kind that will give you nightmares when you are a kid.

Oh, oh, and do you remember the young girl from the original Jurassic Park film? She is in this movie as well; 3 years before she ran away from Velociraptors, she had to face escape from those slugs from the sand. Wait until she starts to scream, that stinging voice will get stuck into your ears, impossible not to recognize it.

A nice movie to watch again, and if you never saw it before, please yourself with some good old Tremors, because it’s for sure much better than the movies made nowadays. An hour and half of entertainment whith a smile on your face.

The movie has up to 4 sequels (the fifth one from this year, 2015) that lack the originality and freshness of this first one, but they can still been watched if you don’t have anything better to do.
