There is a big saturation in the terrain of zombie comedy films since the begining of the century. And besides some exceptions like Zombieland (2009) or Shaun of the Dead (2004), most of them just keep copying without bringing anything new the formula that maybe was funny once, decades ago. And Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (aka Zombie Camp) is not the exception. Actually, it fits very well in the description of a worthless zombie comedy movie: stupid teenagers, bad jokes, even worse plans and lots of sexism and cheap female nudity.

The plot is also very simple: a zombie outbreak takes over a little american town and three loser boy scouts must save their lifes and their love interest with the help of a stripper turned into a pro gunner. Because we know strippers always had guns crazy parents or ex boyfriends that tought them how to kill in a hundred ways, right? So from that start point, all we get here is a bunch of crazy escape plans and supposed to be funny situations, all splattered in generous gore.

But not everything in Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (aka Zombie Camp) is bad. The acting is more than acceptable and the chemestry between the characters is fluid enough to save at some moments the lame script. Also, the makeup and special effects are above the average for these kind of movies. In fact, Brian Kinney, who was in charge for the zombie appearance, was also the makeup artist in bigger productions like The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (2014 and 2015) and both Insidious installations (2010 and 2013) among others. That pretty much means at least we can enjoy the many zombie deaths in the movie. And that’s something Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (aka Zombie Camp) is pretty rich about, some good old zombie slayering for our eyes.

So with all these arguments, and always knowing that they are only a point of view of a person, everyone should decide to give it a try or not to this new drop in the glass of zombie comedies. My final reasoning is that these kind of films should at least accomplish one of these three facts: to bring something original, to be really funny or to be really scary. And Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (aka Zombie Camp) have none of these facts.

RATE: 4/10
