For movies like this is why a festival like Sitges Film Festival is made for. A science-fiction horror action movie, with no big pretensions, with big doses of comedy and the only will to entertain the audience. People might say it’s a dumb film. Well, it’s not a dogma film noir, that’s for sure. And nor its budget or pretensions can be compared to Hollywood blockbusters. But, for what it is, Nekrotronic (2018) is a worthy film.
At first one could think the biggest attraction of the movie would be the presence of international superstar Monica Bellucci as part of the main cast. Yes, that is a big name for the posters and the magazine covers, but here the star is something else: fun. Especially when one sees how Bellucci performs her character, the evil cyber-demon boss. Being almost a caricature of herself and all her previous roles that took her on the pedestal as one of the best European actresses of the last 50 years.
Nekrotronic (2018) is the second feature film of writer and director Kiah Roache-Turner, who already showed his devotion for mechanical monsters and robotic demons with his previous film Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead (2014). This time the battle happens in cyberspace, in a society alienated by technology, with people paying more attention to their cell phones than to their own reality. And that is the gate the demons have found to enter into our world and to possess us, through the internet. There we go, cyber demons! Yeah! And where there are demons there are their hunters, so we also have our magical heroes. Dinner is served.
It is true that Nekrotronic (2018) is a movie easy to forget, although it has some really laughable moments, some interesting action tricks and a kind of effective smartass plot idea. But it is also a fact that the movie is fun to watch. Perfectly recommendable for one of those evenings that you are in the mood for some plain entertainment. Or as the lineup of a horror and fantasy festival, there is where it belongs. So people, if you ever have the chance to see Nekrotronic (2018) then you might remember this review. Because, after all, this text is as forgettable as the movie is, but yet it’s fun. Or at least I tried to make it fun. Nevermind, the movie is indeed worth. Watch it if you can.
