As I mentioned in another movie review, I loooooove alien movies and I dislike war films. Battle Earth (aka The Medic) is basically a war movie with an alien invasion as background. And a very very boring war movie. I got ripped off.
After a simple characters description, more pathetic than useful, and an alien attack that comes from nowhere, we are placed in a plot where a group of soldiers are fighting against the extraterrestrial invaders. The very low budget is totally patent when you see how all the action happens in the middle of a forest. No labs, no cities in ruins, no big military installations. Nothing but a group of canadian marines having campfire stories. Some stuff happens, but the action is extremely slow and the script and dialogs are pointless. Somehow I couldn’t help to think it’s a pity that most of the times in these kind of pointless movies the acting and sound are also too bad, worse than amateur. But if there’s something I can’t complain about this movie is that the actors really try the best they can. Acting is credible and sound is not bad at all. I think that makes the movie even worse, at least if it all was an abolute disaster you could laugh at it. But no, it’s not even laughable.
An alien invasion movie where you almost don’t see any spaceship or alien. Until the end, when you see the creatures from outer space. A cheap mix between a Predator and Pirates of the Caribbean’s Davy Jones dude (you know, the bad guy with the octopuss face) shooting laser balls and chasing the marines BY FOOT. They don’t even have high tech alien vehicles? What a cheap invasion, man. No surprise, no thrill, no interest. And meanwhile, those soldiers ranting about their pointless problems nobody cares about.
I know it’s my own thing to dislike war movies, but this one is just worthless, no matter what genre is about. Total waste of time.
My Rating: 1/10
