TRAILER

In the last years, Hollywood has taken some historical characters or children histories into an action/horror perspective. The results are in general lame, since those productions are targeted to dumb easy-money-maker teenagers that preffer to see dull digital effects and some pretty faces before enjoying a good story.

Children fairytales and bedtime stories like Hansel and Gretel have had their flesh and bones thrilling action movie in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013). Others didn’t have that much luck and were doomed in the form of awful films like Red Riding Hood (2011) and Snow White and the Huntsman (2012). Also historical characters like Abraham Lincoln have had their appearances as action horror heroes. Funnily in the same year, 2012, President Lincoln was pretty busy fighting against vampires and bloodthirsty zombies in 2 different films.

Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies is a classic zombie survival movie, but its originality recedes in the fact that it’s placed in a different environment. The story tells the adventures of President Abraham Lincoln in the middle of the american civil war, and forced to join forces with the southern enemy to fight against bloodthirsty zombies eating anything that get in their way. The story is simple and at some points it gets really boring. The soundtrack is ridiculous, never matching with the scenes. The same movie without the music could had been better. The audio recording is very amateur and the direction is not good at all, but special effects and makeup are pretty acceptable. Of course, there are some big explosions that look totally fake, but what would be an Asylum movie without fake explosion and excessive CGI?

The acting is not very good either, except for Bill Oberst Jr., who plays President Lincoln. I have to admit although I’ve seen this actor in some other low budget horror movies, for me this is his best performance. The only one who brings some dignity into the final pack.

At first I was afraid this would be another stupid patriotic movie, those kind of products that only americans can swallow, brainwashing people with their bars and stars. But gladly it is not, it is just a regular zombie movie placed in a certain historic scenario where the plots and characters mainly try to fight against their own demons and a bunch of braineater maniacs.

Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies is worth basicly only to see an original new approach to the american civil war but in a horror key. It doesn’t pretend to be a top movie, a movie to remember. Only worth if you are curious, then maybe you can even have a decent time.

My Rating: 4/10
