"Zombieland 2" will see the light in October 2019

Everybody knew sooner or later it was going to happen. And now it’s finally happening. The four protagonists of horror comedy Zombieland (2009), Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin are getting together with original director Ruben Fleischer to develop the long-awaited sequel, so far known as Zombieland 2 (2019). The movie has been set to come out in theaters worldwide in October next year, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the release of the first film.

This sequel will be a direct continuation of the events of Zombieland (2009), where four people have to find a way to survive a world after a zombie outbreak. At first, the tension between the four is evident, especially since the two girls team up against the men. But soon they will feel close as a family, a weird family in a weird environment. Zombies, the apocalypse, and Bill Murray will cross the paths of the four survivors on their quest to find the last Twinkie on earth.

Director Ruben Fleischer was an experienced TV and short features filmmaker when he hit the jackpot with his debut full-length movie. Since then, he’s been involved in several TV projects and some short films, besides signing the crime movies 30 Minutes or Less (2011), again with Jesse Eisenberg, and Gangster Squad (2013), again with Emma Stone. Now, he is currently working on the post-production of Venom (2018), his debut in a Marvel Universe title, again with Woody Harrelson together with Tom Hardy in the main role.

Zombieland 2 (2019) has been written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who also wrote the first one, together with Dave Callaham, the co-creator of the screenplay for The Expendables (2010) together with Sylvester Stallone. Reportedly, the script is ready, although pre-production didn’t start yet. And probably will be on hold for some months until director Ruben Fleischer is done with his duties with Venom (2018). In the meantime, perhaps is a good moment to watch again the first Zombieland (2009). And as an appetizer, here is its trailer:
