Fans of slasher movies should be happy because today You Might Be the Killer (2018) becomes available on Video on Demand (exclusive via Bloody Disgusting). The movie was screened at Fantastic Fest and Toronto After Dark Film Festival this year and it became one of the favorite titles for the lovers of gory comedies.
Because, overall, this movie is made by the fans of the genre and to the fans of the genre. Heavily inspired by the classic slashers like Friday the 13th (1980), You Might Be the Killer (2018) is a homage to those stories about an inhuman murderer who slays one by one a group of campers purely for his own amusement. Only this time it is driven closer to a comedy, with many references to the original movies and a treatment of a meta-movie. Close to recent titles like the enjoyable Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010) and The Final Girls (2015), or, to a greater or lesser extent, to deconstructive like The Cabin in the Woods (2012).
You Might Be the Killer (2018) is directed by Brett Simmons, who also wrote the script together with Covis Berzoyne and Thomas P. Vitale. The director is already becoming one of the big names of underground horror thanks to his previous films Husk (2011), The Monkey’s Paw (2013) and Animal (2014). Under his orders were starring two names who are better known for their horror comedy roles like Alyson Hannigan, the unforgettable Willow of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) TV series, and Fran Kranz, who was already part of the main cast of The Cabin in the Woods (2012). With them, Brittany S. Hall, Sara Catherine Bellamy, Olivia Jaye Brown, Savannah DesOrmeaux, Jesse Gallegos, Jenna Harvey, Peter Jaymes Jr. and Jack Murillo also star.
You Might Be the Killer (2018) is about a camp counselor who is suffering from blackouts only to find himself surrounded by murder victims. He turns to his horror movie enthusiast friend for advice, and to contend with the idea he may be the killer. So plenty of fun if you are into slashers with a different twist.
