The world (or maybe I should say “the internet”) was in shock when it was made public that Warner Bros. studio was planning on doing a new MATRIX movie. Alarms went off when we knew that the plan wasn’t to produce a sequel for its latest installment until date, Matrix Revolutions (2003). Rumors started to point to the possibility of a reboot for the franchise or a remake of original The Matrix (1999). But after the confirmation that screen writer Zak Penn is already hired to be in charge of the text for this new adventure, it was himself via his official Twitter account who denied the rumors of a newer version of the Wachowski Sisters masterpiece.
All I can say at this point is no one could or should REBOOT the Matrix. People who know Animatrix and the comics understand.

Can’t comment yet except to say that the words “reboot” and “remake” were from an article. Let’s stop responding to inaccurate news.

After these soothing statements, now it is to expect the plans for Warner Bros. are to create a series of spin-off films, similar to what Disney is doing with the Star Wars universe with titles like Rogue One (2016) and the young Han Solo film expected for 2018. It kind of has sense, since The Matrix (1999) and Star Wars (1977) could possibly be the most influencial and life changing science fiction films of the past 50 years. And no matter how money greedy Hollywood studios are, this is a legacy that should be sacred.
As Zak Penn himself stated, “the perfect choice to recast Keanu Reeves would just be Keanu Reeves”. So let Neo be The One, because after the inicial fright now we are craving for new adventures of the resistance against The Matrix.
