“Teddy” but not because of a Teddy-bear. More like a werewolf. Because that is what attacked the protagonist of Teddy (2020), and, in the movie, we can be part of his transformation and all the nightmares that imply.
Set in in a rural French town, twenty-something Teddy is scratched by an unknown beast and slowly undergoes frightening changes.
The movie has been directed by Ludovic Boukherma and Zoran Boukherma, who also were authors of the screenplay. This is the debut feature film of the filmmakers after a few short films and drama comedy Willy 1er (2016) with which they were nominated for the Queer Palm in Cannes Film Festival in 2016 sharing the honors with the other directors of the movie Marielle Gautier and Hugo P. Thomas.
The title role and main star of the show are played by Anthony Bajon, a young actor who was the winner of the Silver Berlin Bear at the Berlinale – Berlin International Film Festival 2018 thanks to his performance in The Prayer (aka La prière in original French language) (2018). Together with him, Christine Gautier, Ludovic Torrent, Guillaume Mattera, Jean-Michel Ricart, Alain Boitel, and Noémie Lvovsky also star.
Along 2020, Teddy (2020) has had an extended international genre festivals run that took it to participate in Deauville Film Festival, L’Étrange Festival, MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival, Festival International du Film Indépendant de Bordeaux, Busan International Film Festival, Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Splat!FilmFest Horror Film Festival, and Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival where it was the winner of the Critic’s Award as Best Film, and also nominated as Best Film in the Official Fantàstic Competition category.
The movie is scheduled for a French release on March 10, 2021. Here you can watch the trailer for Teddy (2020).
