Last week, the first trailer for the new upcoming movie by Alex Garland, Men (2022), came out. It is one of those trailers where almost nothing of the events happening in the film is revealed but with a bunch of mysterious images and sounds that do nothing but raise the hype and interest for the movie.
Not much is known from the story, which has been categorized as a science-fiction horror drama. The only official plot that has been shared tells that Men (2022) centers on a young woman who goes on a solo vacation to the English countryside after the death of her ex-husband.
This is the new work of writer and director Alex Garland, a man who gained notoriety with writing the screenplays for The Tesseract (2003), Dredd (2012), and the Danny Boyle films The Beach (2000), 28 Days Later… (2002), and Sunshine (2007), until he moved to film directing to debut with the science-fiction instant classic Ex Machina (2014), nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing Screenplay and the BAFTA Film Awards for Best British Film, Best Supporting Actress (Alicia Vikander), Best Original Screenplay, Best Special Visual Effects, and Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, and the superb horror and science-fiction Annihilation (2018).
The main cast for Men (2022) is formed by Jessie Buckley, nominated for an Academy Award for her participation in The Lost Daughter (2021) and also present in I’m Thinking of Ending Things (2020), Beast (2017), and The Courier (2020), and also includes Rory Kinnear, better known as M’s assistant Bill Tanner in the latest James Bond movies and also part of the cast in Wild Target (2010), The Imitation Game (2014), and Trespass Against Us (2016), and Paapa Essiedu, nominated for a Primetime Emmy and BAFTA TV Award for Leading Actor in I May Destroy You (2020).
