Dead & Beautiful (2021) is a thriller with a vampire thematic about a group of young and spoiled rich kids who turn into vampires after a night out, changing the course of their lives and driving a wedge between them all. The movie, which is still having a festivals run, has been announced to be scheduled for a release in Shudder this November.
The movie centers on five rich spoiled Asian twenty-somethings that are suffering from upper-class ennui, unsure how to spend their days when so little is expected from them. In search of excitement, the five friends form “The Circle”, a group where they take turns designing a unique, extravagant experience for the others. But things go wrong when the privileged urbanites awaken after a night out, to find they have developed vampire fangs and an unquenchable thirst for flesh, blood, and adventure at any price.
This is the new movie from Dutch filmmaker David Verbeek, that has spent most of his career in China being responsible for awards-winner films Shanghai Trance (2008), R U There (2010), Club Zeus (2011), How to Describe a Cloud (2013), Full Contact (2015), and An Impossibly Small Object (2018). He has also been the author of the screenplay together with Hugh Travers.
The main cast for Dead & Beautiful (2021) is formed by Gijs Blom, Aviis Zhong, Yen Tsao, Philip Juan, and Anechka Marchenko.
The movie premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in February this year, and it has also been part of the Dutch festivals Imagine Film Festival, Film by the Sea Film Festival, and Nederlands Film Festival. It is also scheduled to be part of Fantastic Fest on September 25, Taipei Film Festival on September 30, and Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival on October 9.
