Amazon Studios is releasing in theaters their latest production this weekend. The name is Foe (2023) and is a mystery drama thriller with a background of science-fiction where the secluded souls disconnected from the outside world must face the visit of a mysterious stranger. The movie, with mesmerizing imagery and persistent questions about the nature of humanity and artificial humanity, brings the not-too-distant future to luminous life.
Hen and Junior farm a secluded piece of land that has been in Junior’s family for generations, but their quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger shows up at their door with a startling proposal.
Garth Davis, nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards and the BAFTA Awards for being behind some episodes of the Jane Campion crimes TV series Top of the Lake (2013–2017), and also responsible for the biography dramas Lion (2016) and Mary Magdalene (2018), is the writer, producer, and director of Foe (2023). The film is based on the novel of the same name by Iain Reid.
The main cast is led by the Oscar nominees Saoirse Ronan (Atonement (2007), Brooklyn (2015), Lady Bird (2017), Little Women (2019)) and Paul Mescal (Aftersun (2022)). Aaron Pierre completes the main cast.
The movie premiered at the New York Film Festival on August 17, 2023, and this month is also taking part in the Beyond Fest, Nashville Film Festival, and BFI London Film Festival.
Foe (2023) is Rated R for language, some sexual content, and nudity. Produced by Amazon Studios, Anonymous Content, I Am That, and See-Saw Films, and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, it is coming out in theaters on October 6, 2023.
