Although this film is basically a piece of fiction, it can still relate to real facts happening in many places around the world. The often misunderstood concept of honor can cost the life of the ones that, although their actions could be morally debatable, for sure won’t deserve capital punishment. In Av: The Hunt (2020), after being caught with her lover, a woman becomes hunted by her own relatives who want to kill her for their family’s honor.
In the movie, Police officer Sedat raids a derelict apartment squatted by a young couple. The man is killed, the young woman, Ayse, escapes. When her friends and relatives offer no help, Ayse is forced to steal cash and a car from her father and flee town like an outlaw. The chase goes deeper into the wild. Along with three men he has recruited, Sedat is pursuing her, out to kill in the name of honor. Taking off from the suburbs of Anatolia, Av: The Hunt (2020) continues reaching breath-taking natural landscapes and recounts how a young woman is pulled into a spiral of violence while trying to escape the patriarchal society she lives in.
This is the new movie of writer, producer, and director Emre Akay, who has achieved several awards nominations with his previous works.
The main cast is formed by Billur Melis Koç, Ahmet Rifat Sungar, Yagiz Can Konyali, Adam Bay, Kenan Acar, Baki Ridvan Kaymaz, and Emre Yetim.
The movie has had an extensive film festival run since its release in 2020, including Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland, MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival in Portugal, Reykjavík International Film Festival in Iceland, Splat!FilmFest Horror Film Festival in Poland, and Imagine Film Festival in the Netherlands. Now, it’s available internationally from the popular streaming platform Netflix.
