Troma's Spidarlings to be out on Troma Now

One of the most celebrated Troma titles for the last years, Spidarlings (2016), is scheduled to be part of the Troma Now catalog by the 1st of July. This funny punk rock comedy horror musical tells the story of two lesbian lovers, Eden and Matilda, who are struck by serious financial troubles. A merciless landlord called “The Landlord” won’t give them a break. Matilda works at the men-only night club “Juicy Girls”, which not only is in dislike of her better half but also has some wicked things going on. But if that situation wasn’t enough, the real trouble starts when Eden buys a pet spider.

Spidarlings (2016) is written, produced and directed by young German-born UK-based filmmaker Salem Kapsaski, who achieved some recognition for the underground talk-show London Calling (2015–). The film is starred by Sophia Disgrace, Rahel Kapsaski, Lee Mark Jones, Jeff Kristian, Gabriella Kapsaski, Rusty Goffe and, like in almost every Troma release, it has a hilarious smart part for the company’s main authority Lloyd Kaufman.

Director Salem Kapsaski mentioned the main idea for this story was finding himself in a similar situation, with financial struggles, a ruthless landlord, and relentless threats to his family “from an unstable individual”. These real life experiences “mixed with influences from John Waters, I Love Lucy, Lloyd Kaufman, Peanuts cartoons” and an amazing musical score by Jeff Kristian are what finally gives Spidarlings (2016) this aura of dangerous independent but yet interesting film. It won’t be the milestone of a generation, but it could steal a few laughs and smiles to people who can’t find their place in this world. Which, by the way, is not an easy quest. Not at all. Writer and journalist Chris Alderson even featured Spidarlings (2016) in his book “The Lesbian Film Guide“, a selection of over 400 queer-friendly films or tv shows and web series, that has become pretty popular in the LGBT circles.
