Is there live for superhero movies outside Marvel and DC? Yes, there is! And Bloodshot (2020) is the perfect proof of that. Bloodshot (2020) is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Valiant Comics character of the same name.
In the movie, after he and his wife are murdered, Marine Ray Garrison is resurrected by a secret team of scientists. Enhanced with nanotechnology, he becomes a superhuman, biotech killing machine: Bloodshot. As Ray first trains with fellow super-soldiers, he cannot recall anything from his former life. But when his memories flood back and he remembers the man that killed both him and his wife, he breaks out of the facility hellbent on revenge, only to discover that there’s more to the conspiracy than he originally thought.
The movie marks the debut film as a director of Dave Wilson, an experienced video games and movies Visual Effects artist that has worked in blockbuster movies like Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), he was also the director of the episode Sonnie’s Edge in Primetime Emmy awarded Love, Death & Robots (2019– ) TV series. The screenplay for the movie has been written by Jeff Wadlow, writer and director of Kick-Ass 2 (2013), and Eric Heisserer, BAFTA and Oscar nominated for the script of Arrival (2016).
Vin Diesel plays the title character, which marks his second comic book role after his participation in the Guardians of the Galaxy saga. Together with him, Eiza González, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, Guy Pearce, Talulah Riley, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Siddharth Dhananjay, and Lamorne Morris also star.
Intended to launch a new shared cinematic universe of superheroes, Bloodshot (2020) was announced to be followed by a sequel, two movies based on the comic book series Harbinger, and culminate with a crossover film titled Harbinger Wars. Filming for Bloodshot (2020) began on August 6, 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa, and in Prague, Czech Republic, with some filming taking place in Budapest, Hungary in that same month. The movie is scheduled to be released on February 21, 2020, by Sony Pictures Releasing. This week the first official trailer has seen the light, and you can watch it here:
