Fans for the gory horror Saw saga are going to get some candy this year, because the new episode of the franchise, Spiral: From The Book of Saw (2020), is coming up this spring.

In the movie, working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran, brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks and his rookie partner take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game. Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Marisol Nichols, Max Minghella, Zoie Palmer, Dan Petronijevic, Nazneen Contractor, Morgan David Jones, Edie Inksetter, K.C. Collins, and Ali Johnson star in the film.

With the working title The Organ Donor, Spiral (2020), this movie is set to be the ninth film of the Saw franchise. Darren Lynn Bousman, a good knower of the saga having directed the films Saw II (2005), Saw III (2006) and Saw IV (2007), as well as other popular horror movies like Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008), Mother’s Day (2010), 11-11-11 (2011), The Devil’s Carnival (2012), Alleluia! The Devil’s Carnival (2016), Abattoir (2016) and St. Agatha (2018), is back to the franchise to direct this new film. Actor and comedian Chris Rock came out with the idea and storyline of Spiral (2020). The screenplay based on his story has been written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, also knowers of the Saw universe after writing the script for the latest installment to date Jigsaw (2017), as well as other titles like Sorority Row (2009) or Piranha 3D (2010).

Spiral (2020) has the catch of containing the biggest trap of any Saw movie. It is also the biggest one ever built and will have arguably the most horrific death scene so far. All according to director Darren Bousman. Filming of the movie commenced in Toronto on July 8, 2019, and officially wrapped on August 28, 2019. Lionsgate’s CEO Joe Drake stated about the movie, “we think Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock along with Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols make this film completely special in the Saw canon and we can’t wait to unleash this unexpected and sinister new story on fans of this franchise. This is the next level of Saw on full tilt“.

The movie was first planned to come out for the Halloween weekend, like all the other films in the franchise, but dates had to be moved due to the release of another popular horror franchise installment, Halloween Kills (2020). Spiral (2020) is finally scheduled to be released on May 15, 2020, by Lionsgate. Here you can watch the new trailer for the movie:
