After shocking the world of horror with their debut film Goodnight Mommy (2014) (Ich seh ich seh in the original German language), the tandem formed by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz is back with another movie heavy loaded with fear, tension and nerve busting. The name is The Lodge (2019) and caused a good sensation in the Sundance Film Festival last January.
Placed in an arid and frozen stage, a soon-to-be stepmom is trapped in with her fiancé’s two children at a remote holiday village. The weather is first their only apparent enemy, but just as relations begin to thaw between the trio, some strange and frightening events take place. The past, strange occurrences, fear and a mysterious religious background join hands in order to make the protagonist live a real hell in such a snowed landscape.
The Lodge (2019) is based on a story by Sergio Casci, who also wrote the screenplay together with Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz. FilmNation Entertainment and Hammer Films produced and financed the film. It stars Riley Keough, Jaeden Martell, Lia McHugh, Alicia Silverstone, and Richard Armitage.
The Lodge (2019) had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 25, 2019. Shortly after, NEON acquired distribution rights to the film. Although the release dates are not made official yet, the movie will probably open in theaters this summer. We will have to keep an eye to our local billboard.
