The 30th of March 2018 will mark the day the new Steven Spielberg film Ready Player One (2018) will open in cinemas pretty much worldwide. Now we have here the first trailer for the movie, Spielberg’s return to the science fiction genre that so great success has brought to him.

Ready Player One (2018) is based on the homonymous novel by author Ernest Cline, published in 2011. In the novel, in the year 2044, the world has been gripped by an energy crisis from the depletion of fossil fuels and the consequences of global warming, causing widespread social problems and economic stagnation. To escape the decline their world is facing, people turn to the OASIS, a virtual reality simulator accessible by players using visors and haptic technology such as gloves. It functions both as an MMORPG and as a virtual society, with its currency being the most stable in the real world. It was created by James Halliday who, when he died, had announced in his will to the public that he had left an Easter egg inside OASIS, and the first person to find it would inherit his entire fortune and the corporation. The story follows the adventures of Wade Watts, starting about five years after the announcement, when he discovers one of the three keys pointing to the treasure.

The screenplay adapted from the novel has been penned by Zak Penn together with the original author Ernest Cline, who already participated in the writing of the science fiction comedy Fanboys (2009). The movie is starred by Olivia Cooke, Tye Sheridan, Hannah John-Kamen, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg, Ben Mendelsohn, Julia Nickson, Letitia Wright and Lena Waithe.

The movie promises big entertainment for all the lovers of special effects and epic stories with lots of fantasy and science fiction. As an appetizer, you can find here the first trailer for Ready Player One (2018):
