Roxanne Benjamin is one of the new female filmmakers in horror movies that has put her name in vogue thanks for being part of the producing team of popular anthology films V/H/S (2012), V/H/S/2 (2013), V/H/S Viral (2014), Southbound (2015) and XX (2017), being in the last 2 titles also writer and director of some of the segments. Now, with Body at Brighton Rock (2019), she makes the step debuting as the writer and director of a full feature film.
In Body at Brighton Rock (2019), Wendy is a part-time summer employee at a mountainous state park, inexperienced and not the most responsible one around, who takes on a rough trail assignment at the end of the season, trying to prove to her friends that she’s capable enough to do the job. When she takes a wrong turn and ends up deep in the backcountry, she stumbles upon what might be a potential crime scene. Stuck with no communication after losing her radio and with orders to guard the site, Wendy must fight the urge to run and do the harder job of staying put, even spending the night deep in the wilderness, facing down her worst fears and proving to everyone – including herself – that she’s made of stronger stuff than they think she is.
This thriller with some elements of classic horror films where the mystery of the unknown drives to a tragic ending and human beings can be more dangerous than the wild forest itself is starred by Karina Fontes, who is pretty much in every scene of the movie and whose sole and previous credit in film was a small role in Southbound (2015). Starring together with her, Casey Adams, Emily Althaus, Miranda Bailey, Martin Spanjers, Matt Peters, Susan Burke, John Getz, Brodie Reed and John F. Beach are taking part.
