Tyler Perry seems to have liked the path Jordan Peele followed a few years ago when he went from being one of the most notorious comedy actors, writers and producers to become one of the most essential horror directors of the current times after his films Get Out (2017) and Us (2019). Perry has been one of the most awarded black comedians of the century, being the creator of a big bunch of titles in TV and film including the Madea film saga which he wrote, produced, directed and starred. But he has been seen starring titles far from the laughs in films like Star Trek (2009), Alex Cross (2012), Gone Girl (2014), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016) or Vice (2018). Now, for his new project of his own, he has chosen a much darker mood.
A Fall from Grace (2020) is a psychological thriller written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry via his own company Tyler Perry Studios. The movie centers on a woman who is indicted for murdering her husband, but her lawyer thinks there may be a conspiracy at play. Yet any woman can snap, and Grace’s new husband soon ravages her life, her work and – many say – her sanity. Shuttered in a cell awaiting trial for his murder, Grace’s only hope for vindication lies with Jasmine Bryant, a public defender who has never tried a case.
