Let’s be honest, to discover what is to be found in outer space and write stories of science-fiction and horror traveling the stars and constellations are very cool. But sometimes we forget the biggest mysteries and, why not, horrors, are even closer than we think. We have explored a very limited volume of the oceanic life, and actually, every time a research team goes a little bit further into the deeps of our waters they discovered more unknown species and crazy shit. Underwater here on Earth is when the most bizarre science-fiction stories can become facts. As beautiful as deadly.

Underwater (2020) is a horror and science-fiction movie about a crew of underwater researchers who must scramble to safety after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory. Five miles from land and seven miles underwater, the misfortuned adventurers are more isolated than being in a remote galaxy. Who needs alien chest bursters when we have the cruelty of our own planet against us? Honestly, I don’t know which scenario looks more frightening.

Underwater (2020) has been directed by William Eubank, the man behind science-fiction thriller The Signal (2014). The movie is based on a story by Brian Duffield, writer of The Babysitter (2017) and Insurgent (2015), who also wrote the screenplay together with Adam Cozad (one of the writers of The Legend of Tarzan (2016) and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014)).

The main attraction of Underwater (2020) is Kristen Stewart, playing some sort of deep-sea Ellen Ripley. Together with her, T.J. Miller, Vincent Cassel, Jessica Henwick, John Gallagher Jr., Mamoudou Athie, and Gunner Wright also star.

Produced by 20th Century Fox and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Underwater (2020) was filmed during the spring of 2017. Almost 3 years after, it is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide in January 2020. Find here the first trailer for the movie:
