Typical couple discussion, what movie to watch tonight? One wants to see a romantic musical, the other one wants to see a gory and funny zombie flick. La La Land (2016) or Shaun of the Dead (2004)? Ok, and what about both? And this little joke serves as an introduction to present you the movie Anna and the Apocalypse (2017).
In this movie, a zombie apocalypse hits the sleepy town of Little Haven on at Christmas time. Teenager Anna and her high school friends have to fight, sing and dance to survive, with the undead horde all around them. Teaming up with her best friend John, Anna has to fight her way through zombified snowmen, Santas, elves and Christmas shoppers to get across town to the high school, where they’ll be safe. But they soon discover that being a teenager is just as difficult as staying alive, even at the end of the world.
Comedy, romance, horror, zombies, blood and guts, yeah, why not? Anna and the Apocalypse (2017) is the long version feature of short film Zombie Musical (2011). The short film, written and directed by Ryan McHenry, even managed to win the Bafta Scotland New Talent Award in 2011. But sadly McHenry past away in 2015 due to an osteosarcoma. Alan McDonald took the main idea to write the full feature screenplay for the adventures and songs of Anna and her friends against the horde of the undead. And John McPhail took the directional duties.
