One of the most celebrated horror movies of the past South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) edition has been Wildling (2018), the debut feature film of Berlin-born filmmaker Fritz Böhm. The movie is written by Böhm together with his frequent collaborator Florian Eder.
Wildling (2018) tells the story of Anna, a teenage girl who spends her entire childhood under the care of a mysterious man she only knows as Daddy. He keeps her locked in an attic making her fear the Wildling, a child-eating monster that roams the outside. At age 16, Anna is freed by small-town sheriff Ellen Cooper who helps her start a new life as a normal teenager. But as Anna’s body begins to blossom, her childhood nightmares return with a vengeance, leading to the conclusion of a terrifying secret.
The movie is starred by Bel Powley, Liv Tyler, Brad Dourif, James Le Gros and Mike Faist, and it was filmed in the New York area. Next April Wildling (2018) will have a cinema rooms release in English language speaking territories like the USA, UK, Canada and Ireland. It is yet to see if the movie will have theatrical distribution in other countries. In the meantime, here is the first trailer:
