Before everybody went brainless crazy with Parasite (2019), horror and mystery fans knew that South Korean films in the last years were always to take into consideration. Titles like Dream Home (2010), The Wailing (2016), The Host (2006), A Tale of Two Sisters (2003), or anything made by Park Chan-wook, form part of some of the most amazing movies seen on the new century. And a few years ago appeared Train to Busan (2016) [read our review here], one of the best zombies flicks ever existed, where a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea and passengers struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan. Soon after the premiere and good reception of the film, a sequel was announced.
With the working title Train to Busan 2, the final title of the movie is Peninsula (2020). In it, four years after the events of Train to Busan (2016), there is nothing left of Korea except its geography. A crew on a retrieval mission comes under attack, and in the process discovers more survivors. As happened with the previous film, the movie is directed by Sang-ho Yeon with a screenplay written with him together with Joo-Suk Park.
Also called Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula, it is starred by Gang Dong-won, Lee Jung-hyun, Lee Re, Kwon Hae-hyo, Kim Min-jae, Koo Kyo-hwan, and Lee Ye Won.
Peninsula (2020) is currently in post-production and although the exact release date is not made public yet it is announced to come out in South Korea on August 2020. Here you can watch the trailer for the movie from official distributors ONE Media:
