John Hyams is the son of acclaimed action and science-fiction flicks director Peter Hyams, responsible for many genre favorites like Outland (1981), 2010 (1984), Timecop (1994), The Relic (1997), or End of Days (1999). It is not a surprise that like father like son, and John Hyams has been behind titles like action science-fiction sequels Universal Soldier: Regeneration (2009) and Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning (2012), with the original film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, and has been producer and director of some episodes of TV series Z Nation (2014–2018) and Black Summer (2019– ). His latest project is the mystery thriller Alone (2020).
Alone (2020) tells the story of a recently widowed traveler who is kidnapped by a cold-blooded killer, only to escape into the wilderness where she is forced to battle against the elements as her pursuer closes in on her. The screenplay was written by Mattias Olsson, a Swedish filmmaker known for being the writer and director of Gone (2011) (Försvunnen in the original Swedish language) for which served for inspiration for this new movie.
Jules Willcox, Marc Menchaca, Anthony Heald, and Jonathan Rosenthal are the main stars of the film. Alone (2020) was part of the Mammoth Film Festival this past March where it won the Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Picture awards.
