With World War Z 2 on an eternal hold, the soap opera of rumors about David Fincher directing it or not, and all that stuff, Brad Pitt has stepped into another science fiction production. Ad Astra is currently being written and will be directed by James Gray, notorious for the recent success of his latest movie The Lost City of Z (2016), in which Pitt also was part of as executive producer. And in the past days, a new cast addition has been announced, nothing less than Tommy Lee Jones is joining the production. Jones is in the final talks with the producers, but it seems quite sure that he will be part of the movie. The exclusive has been revealed by online portal Deadline.
Ad Astra, which means “to the stars” in Latin, tells the story of an Army Corps engineer searches across the galaxy for his father, who disappeared on a mission to find alien life in Neptune 20 years ago. Brad Pitt would be playing the space engineer when Tommy Lee Jones will take the role of the missing father.
Production is set to begin this September, as the movie is expected to be one of the main science fiction titles of 2018.
