I think it is fair to say that the horror slasher genre is having a new little golden age in this decade. Probably led by the triumph of the Terrifier saga, with the recent Terrifier 2 (2022) still collecting unexpecting success, plenty of new independent slashers are blooming for the enjoyment of the fans. Time’s Up (2022) is another example of this.
The movie is set on New Year’s Eve, where a faculty party for local teachers, still reeling from the suicide of a bullied student, goes horribly wrong when an unexpected guest arrives with an unusual request: participate in a scavenger hunt or die. Accompanied by a diligent reporter as well as a girl bent on discovering the truth about her friend’s death, the party-goers race to reveal secrets about their mysterious tormentor and each other before the first firework explodes, and the New Year begins with a bloody surprise.
This is the new movie of the writer, producer, and director L.C. Holt, who has participated in Adam Wingard’s Home Sick (2007), Pop Skull (2007), and You’re Next (2011), as well as other horror titles like V/H/S/2 (2013), Terror Trips (2021), and Party Bus (2022). He already debuted behind the cameras with Spiritus (2018).
Damian Maffei, Hannah Fierman, Jonathan Tiersten, Kamarra Cole, Madison Edmunds, Tyler Senatore, Kate Kiddo, Chaney Morrow, and the director L.C. Holt form the main cast of Time’s Up (2022) who also includes small participations of Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp (1983)) and Dave Sheridan (Scary Movie (2000)).
The movie had its premiere at the Popcorn Frights Film Festival on August 19, 2022. Dark Sky Films has the distribution rights and is releasing it on digital platforms on July 18, 2023.
