This time, Ti West might have already done it. After nearly two decades dedicated to horror films, after the splendid reviews and the astonishing images one can get from the trailer of his new movie X (2022), it is possible that the filmmaker has finally done the work that will raise him to the A-class of modern times horror filmmakers.
Ti West has often been related to his pal Eli Roth. Not in vain, West has been responsible for the sequel of Roth’s debut feature film, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009). He’s also been behind some other horror titles, some considered new jewels in the genre like The House of the Devil (2009), The Innkeepers (2011), and The Sacrament (2013), while some others like The Roost (2005), Trigger Man (2007), and In a Valley of Violence (2016) remain in the unknown.
In X (2022), edited, written, and directed by Ti West, the filmmaker brings the action to the era of classic slasher horror films like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) or The Hills Have Eyes (1977). Set in 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast finds themselves fighting for their lives.
Mia Goth plays the role of Maxine aka Pearl. This is her fourth horror film following A Cure for Wellness (2016), Marrowbone (2017), and Suspiria (2018). Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020), Studio 666 (2022), Scream (2022)), Brittany Snow (Prom Night (2008), Would You Rather (2012)), rapper and musician Scott Mescudi aka Kid Cudi, Martin Henderson, Owen Campbell, Stephen Ure, and James Gaylyn form the main cast.
X (2022) is Rated R for strong bloody violence and gore, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use, and language. The movie had its world premiere at the South by Southwest Festival on March 13, 2022, where it was heavily acclaimed. This is the second horror slasher movie distributed by A24 after Green Room (2015).
And, if that wasn’t enough, director Ti West and star Mia Goth were so fond of the character of Pearl that they decided to spend their quarantine days working on a prequel for X (2022). That upcoming film is simply entitled Pearl, it will center around events set in 1918, that take place prior to the first movie, and will also come by the hand of A24 sometime in the near future.
And, with no further ado, check out the official trailer for Ti West’s X (2022), coming out today Friday the 18th, 2022, in the USA, the UK, Russia, Canada, and some other lucky territories.
