And it was Neill Blomkamp himself who said that…

For the fans of the original Alien films, that is very bad news. And it seems it all is because Ridley Scott wants to be the only one attached to any Alien related upcoming movies. Despite the cold recieving from the audience Prometheus (2012) had, Scott hurried to confirm another sequel would be in the works. And that sequel ended up having the name Alien: Covenant (2017), a title expected to arrive to theatres this spring. But that’s not all, because Ridley Scott also has scheduled two more sequels for this new franchise of the Alien fame. That means a lot of investment and legal use for the Xenomorph. And that leaves no room for Neill Blomkamp’s awaited project.
That is really a pity. Because since Neill Blomkamp’s concept came to light, world wide fans have been excited with what little was leaked. Conceved as a sequel for the celebrated James Cameron masterpiece Aliens (1986), it would followed the adventues of Ripley and Hicks after they leave the moon moon LV-426. Actors Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn had publicly said they would love to participate in this film. Even was rumored that Carrie Henn, who retired from acting after this her only feature film ever, would return to incarnate Newt again. Also actor Lance Henriksen stated repeatedly that he would love this Alien 5 movie to happen. But again we will have to long wait for that. So long that even its responsable one Neill Blomkamp has assumed the chances are slim. Slim for not saying pretty much null.
I guess all we have left now is to dream about the sketches and designs made by Blomkamp of how the whole thing could had turned out. And just to stayed tuned for more news about this. But, let’s be practical, no high hopes envolved. Yes, that is sad. For the moment, Ridley Scott’s films are all the Alien we can get.
