Many horror fans and general film aficionados consider the home invasion subgenre one of the most terrifying in the horror scene. Because, if you think about it, if one can’t be safe in the comforts of your own home what else do we have left? The subgenre that started with the early last century silent short film The Lonely Villa (1909) where a gang of thieves lures a man out of his home so that they can rob it and threaten his wife and children opened the doors for the filmmakers’ imagination in order to create the most wicked situations, from Roman Polanski’s Cul-de-sac (1966) and Terence Young’s Wait Until Dark (1967) to Michael Haneke’s Funny Games (1997) or James DeMonaco’s The Purge (2013).
In the horror thriller Braek (2023), the McCabe family’s weekend getaway was never meant to be a life-changing experience. Governor William McCabe, a respected politician, was looking forward to some rest and relaxation. His beautiful wife Lauren and distant stepdaughter Erin strain to enjoy their time together, as the facade of the trophy family has worn dangerously thin. Things take a severe turn for the worse when a charismatic stranger knocks on their door and triggers an unexpected chain of events.
This is the new movie by the writer and director John Fallon after being behind The Shelter (2015). He is also known for being the producer of awards-winner Woodland Grey (2021). Kevin Interdonato, who plays the stranger breaking into the family’s home in Braek (2023), has been the co-writer of the screenplay.
Besides Kevin Interdonato playing the bad guy, Melissa Anschutz, Nick Baillie, Alix Lane, Danilo Rocha, and the director John Fallon complete the cast.
The movie is premiering on February 17, 2023, at the Parliament Studio Cinema in Berlin.
