I know what most of you would be thinking. But, no, despite the similar plot, the trailer and the available promotional images The Woman in the Window (2021) is not a new remake of Alfred Hitchcock‘s classic Rear Window (1954).

The Woman in the Window (2021) centers on an agoraphobic child psychologist who befriends a neighbor across the street from her New York City brownstone condo, only to see her own life turned upside down when the woman disappears and she suspects foul play.

The movie is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name written by A. J. Finn, being this his best-selling book to date with more than 1 million copies sold only in the USA. Tracy Letts, the writer of William Friedkin‘s latest movies Bug (2006) and Killer Joe (2011), is the author of the adaptation screenplay. Joe Wright, director of action thriller Hanna (2011) and popular awarded drama movies Pride & Prejudice (2005), Atonement (2007), Anna Karenina (2012), and Darkest Hour (2017), has been in charge of the direction.

The acting team for The Woman in the Window (2021) is filled-up with popular stars. Amy Adams (Arrival (2016)), Anthony Mackie (The Adjustment Bureau (2011)), Gary Oldman (Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)), Julianne Moore (The Big Lebowski (1998)), and Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight (2015)) are the most popular names in a cast that also includes Donat Balaj, Fred Hechinger, Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry, Jeanine Serralles, Mariah Bozeman, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Anna Cameron.

The Woman in the Window (2021) is Rated R for violence and language. Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor were originally hired to score the film. But after the film’s release was delayed and the film went back into production, it was announced that they were replaced by Danny Elfman.

Original plans were 20th Century Fox would release the movie on March 17, 2020, but, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it had to get rescheduled. Later it was announced that Netflix acquired the distribution rights and it’s finally set for a release on the streaming platform on May 14, 2021.
