1985 was the year of Michael J. Fox. Not only it was the year that saw the light the first title for the franchise that sent him to world stardom, Back to the Future (1985), but it also brought a little family-oriented fantasy comedy called Teen Wolf (1985) he played an ordinary high school who student discovers that his family has an unusual pedigree when he finds himself turning into a werewolf. The movie became a cult classic and a pivotal title for a generation. Who does remember that?
A few decades later, the MTV-produced Teen Wolf (2011–2017) TV series emerged on the TV screens with a more adult-oriented tone, leaving the comedy aspects aside and centering in the action of the adventures. The series were created by Jeff Davis, the creator of other horror and mystery TV series Wolf Pack (2023–) and Criminal Minds (2005–). And although the last episoded aired a few years ago, a revival TV movie to closure the series is coming out this month.
Teen Wolf: The Movie (2023) is set 15 years after the end of Season 3 of the series. In it, a full moon rises in Beacon Hills, and with it a terrifying evil has emerged. The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of Banshees, Werecoyotes, Hellhounds, Kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night. But only a werewolf like Scott McCall, no longer a teenager yet still an Alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.
The movie has been directed by Russell Mulcahy, who was also attached to the Teen Wolf (2011–2017) TV series and is known for having been behind fan-favorite titles like Razorback (1984), Highlander (1986), Highlander II: The Quickening (1991), Ricochet (1991), The Shadow (1994), Resurrection (1999), Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior (2008), and the TV series Tales from the Crypt (1989–1996). The story for Teen Wolf: The Movie (2023) has been written by Will Wallace and Joseph P. Genier, both related to its TV series, and with Jeff Davis writing the teleplay.
Most of the cast of the movie were also part of the TV series. Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed, Holland Roden, Tyler Hoechlin, Shelley Hennig, JR Bourne, Colton Haynes, Linden Ashby, and Melissa Ponzio star.
