The initial idea for the horror movie The Winter Witch (2022) is based on the myth of the Baba Yaga, a Slavic folklore supernatural being who appears as a deformed and/or ferocious-looking woman. In fairy tales, Baba Yaga flies around in a mortar, wields a pestle, and dwells deep in the forest in a hut usually described as standing on chicken legs. Baba Yaga may help or hinder those who encounter or seek her out and may play a maternal role. She also has associations with forest wildlife.

In The Winter Witch (2022), at the behest of her boss Ronnie, journalist Ingrid Hoffman returns to her ancestral home when several children are found slaughtered in nearby woodland. With the village suspecting the infamous Winter Witch is behind the killings, together with her daughter Eleanor and estranged grandmother Omi, Ingrid must uncover the truth and stop the curse of Frau Perchta once and for all.

Richard John Taylor is the producer, writer, and director of the movie. He is known for other crime and horror titles like Fifteen (2012), The Krays: Dead Man Walking (2018), Muse (2019), Vengeance (2020), The Haunting of Pendle Hill (2022), and The Huntress of Auschwitz (2022).

Rula Lenska, Paul Hughes, Jimmy ‘The Bee’ Bennett, Evie Hughes, Rose Hakki, Ryan Noire, Candice L. Owens, and Amelia Mitchell form the main cast.

The movie is having its DVD premiere on December 26, 2022, and will also be available on Amazon Prime Video.
