The Strangers (2008) was a modest horror mystery thriller that turned into a surprise box office success, grossing twice its budget the very opening weekend. It was to expect a sequel would be on the table sooner or later. And 10 years after the release of the first movie, The Strangers 2 (2018) is going to see the light. The movie is only already in a pre-production status, so we don’t know much of the plot or release dates. We do know the original writer and director Bryan Bertino won’t be in charge of the movie this time.
The plot line is about a family on a road trip that goes sour due to car trouble, having to spend the night in a trailer park. Staying inside one such trailer when the lights go out, and they find themselves under siege from the masked killers from the previous film. In The Strangers (2008), after returning from a wedding reception, a couple staying in an isolated vacation house receive a knock on the door in the mid-hours of the night. What ensues is a violent invasion by three strangers, their faces hidden behind masks. The couple finds themselves in a violent struggle, in which they go beyond what either of them thought capable in order to survive.
The Strangers 2 (2018) is written by Ben Ketai, the co-writer of The Forest (2016) and 30 Days of Night: Dark Days (2010). The direction duties will be taken by Johannes Roberts, director of the very interesting Storage 24 (2012). So far, the star trio has been announced, being Christina Hendricks the biggest attraction together with Bailee Madison and Lewis Pullman.
