The Policeman’s Lineage (2022) is a South Korean cop’s crime and thriller about two cops with different methods teaming up to investigate a case that turns the police force upside down.
The main cast is led by two names that has been in some of the most notorious South Korean movies of the last decade, Cho Jin-woong, who was in Park Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden (2016), and Choi Woo-sik one of the stars in Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite (2019) and Okja (2017), and Sang-ho Yeon’s Train to Busan (2016). Hee-soon Park, Kwon Yul, Hyeon-jin Baek, Hyun-Wook Lee, Won Hee Lee, Park Myeong-hoon, and Jung-bum Park complete the main cast.
In the movie, Park Gang-Yoon is the chief of an investigation team that deals with serious crimes. His team has an unrivaled arrest record. Park Gang-Yoon prioritizes making arrests. For that, he doesn’t mind using illegal methods to get information. Choi Min-Jae is a rookie police officer. He is a man of principle. To obtain a secret document about his deceased father, he accepts a mission to monitor Park Gang-Yoon and gather information on his corrupt dealings. He then joins Park Gang-Yoon’s team.
This is the new movie from Kyu-maan Lee, a filmmaker who has been responsible for the thrillers Wide Awake (aka Ri-teon) (2007) and Children… (aka A-i-deul…) (2011), and the horror anthology Hwan-sang-geuk-jang (2011). Bae Young-Ik debuts as the writer of the screenplay.
The Policeman’s Lineage (2022) had a theatrical release in several Asian countries in January 2022, and limited in the USA. Now, it is scheduled for a digital and cable release by Echelon Studios.
