It was predictable to happen this way. The most anticipated movies to come out this fall, with the permission of Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho (2021), are Denis Villeneuve’s Dune (2021), Cary Joji Fukunaga’s No Time to Die (2021), and Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021). And, with the first 2 ones already out in most of the territories, all the eyes are now on the long-awaited adventures of the hunters of the supernatural. Who are you gonna call?
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021), previously known as Ghostbusters 3, is the direct sequel to Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) and pays no mind to other adaptations. The movie centers on a single mother and her two children who after being evicted from their home they get forced to move to a farm inherited from their late grandfather, located in Summerville, Oklahoma. When the town experiences a series of unexplained earthquakes, the children discover their family’s link to the original Ghostbusters, who have become something of a myth as many have long since forgotten the events of the original films. They discover the secret legacy that their grandfather left behind.
The movie is directed by Jason Reitman, the son of the creator of the original films Ivan Reitman. The movie is written by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, the director of Monster House (2006) and the Poltergeist (2015) remake.
The main cast is formed by Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon, Logan Kim, Celeste O’Connor, Oliver Cooper, and Sydney Mae Diaz, and it also features the return of the original stars Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts to their iconic roles.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) is Rated PG-13 for supernatural action and some suggestive references. After some release delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the movie will finally come out on November 18, 2021, worldwide. Here you can watch its official international trailer.
