After it was announced that The New Mutants (2020) would be more horror-oriented and not so much childish fantasy adventure as all the recent superhero movies tend to be, interest for the movie has been increasing. Although we can’t forget this is a Marvel production, we shouldn’t expect a pure creepy horrifying story, but the X-Men saga has always managed to outstand in front of the rest of the MCU productions for a better quality of the characters and, why not, a little bit more of originality.
In the comic books, The New Mutants are a group of teenaged mutant superheroes-in-training appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. They have been the main characters of three successive comic book series, which were spin-offs of the X-Men franchise. The first team of New Mutants characters was created by Chris Claremont and artist Bob McLeod.
The New Mutants (2020) has been directed by Josh Boone, known for his awards-winner romantic film The Fault in Our Stars (2014). He has also been the author of the screenplay together with Knate Lee, after working together in the fantasy TV series The Stand (2020– ).
In The New Mutants (2018), five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves. The cast of characters is headed by Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik, Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes and Happy Anderson as Reverend Craig Sinclair, the mean-spirited ecclesiastical fanatic father of Rahne, who taught her to believe her mutation is something evil.
The movie is scheduled to come out internationally on the last weekend of August. Here you can watch its new trailer.
