Since it was announced a couple of years ago, The Predator (2018) has been one of the most expected movies this year. The choice of Shane Black as a director, as well as co-writer of the movie, sounded from the beginning as a promising one. His works as the writer for Lethal Weapon (1987), The Monster Squad (1987), The Last Boy Scout (1991), Last Action Hero (1993) and The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996) showed that he could be a dynamic writer of action titles. His experience being responsible of the movies Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) and The Nice Guys (2016) proved that he can be a director able to tell a vibrant paced film, and after being behind the cameras in Iron Man 3 (2013) it is obvious that he can be successful in charge of a multi-million Hollywood blockbuster production.
The collection of names added to the cast has been kept quite secretive but any new name announced made the interest in the movie to grow. Yvonne Strahovski, Olivia Munn, Lochlyn Munro, Jacob Tremblay, Sterling K. Brown, Thomas Jane, Boyd Holbrook, Keegan-Michael Key, Edward James Olmos and Jake Busey as the son of Peter Keyes (the role his father Gary Busey played in Predator 2 (1990)) are participating in the movie.
The official plot shared by Twentieth Century Fox reads “from the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race”.
There has been plenty of rumors if The Predator (2018) was going to be a reboot of the franchise or if it was going to be placed in the series universe we already know. But if Jake Busey is Peter Keyes’ son, and Keyes was in Predator 2 (1990) aware of the events happened in the original Predator (1987) movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger fighting the evil alien in a Central American jungle, this new title serves clearly as a sequel, as the third entry of the trilogy.
Today 20th Century Fox has published the long-awaited trailer for The Predator (2018), so get ready because the most bloodthirsty hunter out of space is back. The movie premieres on the 13th of September worldwide.
