William Mark McCullough might be most popular as an actor thanks to his roles in the recent TV series The Walking Dead (2010–2022), Cobra Kai (2018– ), and Quantum Leap (2022– ), but he is also an awards-winner filmmaker. His latest work is the supernatural horror A Savannah Haunting (2021).
The movie centers on a mother grappling with her guilt stemming from the tragic drowning of her youngest daughter. When a family moves to Savannah, Georgia, to distance themselves from the tragedy, the mother slowly grows to believe she is being haunted by her dead daughter. They discover a more sinister force may be at work as ties to Savannah’s brutal slave history and its long connection with Voodoo are revealed, but it may be too late for their family to survive.
Besides directing, William Mark McCullough has also written and produced A Savannah Haunting (2021), saving the male protagonist role for himself.
Gena Shaw, a co-star of the director in Cobra Kai (2018– ), leads the main cast that also includes Tommi Rose, Jaelyn Buffkin, Nico Tirozzi, Anna Harriette Pittman, Dean J. West, Brittney Level, Moses Jones, and Bill Winkler.
The film “takes a fresh approach to the classic haunted house story weaving in strong Southern themes, diverse characters, including a heroic African-American family and a young lesbian couple, as well filming in the real haunted house that inspired the script”.
A Savannah Haunting (2021) is out in selected theaters and on digital on October 28, 2022, by Vertical Entertainment.
