Luca Guadagnino‘s trailer of the remake for the Dario Argento’s classic Suspiria (1977) has finally seen the light! The movie is undoubtedly one of the most awaited films of this year, and the chance to see the images, colors and atmosphere the Italian director has chosen to carry on with his risky movie was something of a debate for horror lovers. Yes, a risky movie, because even being over 40 years old, the original Suspiria (1977) still remains as one of the most iconic titles of the giallo movement. A movie so powerful by its terrifying plot, its powerful colors and lights, and for having one of the scariest soundtracks of all times by the new wave and ambient horror Goblin.
Yes, many were except when the new Suspiria (2018) movie was announced. Personally, I am one of the kind that feared it was a bad idea. Suspiria (1977) is one of my favorite movies of all time, and to be honest most of the classic horror remakes done in the last decade are huge insults towards the originals. Also, being directed by Luca Guadagnino, a multi-awarded filmmaker but whose works have always been far from the waters of horror, always in the terrains of drama and romance, did nothing but to raise big doubts, as I am sure many other also felt. But after getting goosebumps watching the first teaser trailer for Suspiria (2018), I must admit the expectation for the movie seems legit because this is promising!
In the original Suspiria (1977), an American newcomer to a prestigious German ballet academy comes to realize that the school is a front for something sinister amid a series of grisly murders. In this new version, the plot remains the same, with new ambitious students arriving at the dance academy and another scary artistic director. Chloë Grace Moretz, Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Jessica Harper, Renée Soutendijk, Angela Winkler, Sylvie Testud, Ingrid Caven, Malgorzata Bela and Lutz Ebersdorf form the main multi-national cast for Suspiria (2018).
We will have to wait until November when the movie hits theaters, unless we are lucky enough to catch it at some film festival. But as an appetizer, this first official teaser trailer for Suspiria (2018) might crave more than one or two viewers the day the to witness the movie on the silver screen:
