It is still uncertain if Overlord (2018) will be part of the Cloverfield saga or not, but what is clear is that after watching its first trailer the expectation for it to come out is raising.
The movie is produced by J.J. Abrams via his company Bad Robot, together with Paramount Pictures. Based on a story by Billy Ray, better known for being the writer of The Hunger Games (2012) (not the novel but the script). The screenplay was a collaboration between Ray together with Mark L. Smith, the writer of The Revenant (2015), Vacancy (2007) and the horrible awful Martyrs (2015) remake. Julius Avery, director of the action drama Son of a Gun (2014), has directed the project. Wyatt Russell, Pilou Asbæk, Iain De Caestecker, Bokeem Woodbine, Jacob Anderson, John Magaro, Jovan Adepo, Marc Rissmann, Éva Magyar and Mathilde Ollivier are the stars of the film.
At first it might look like one, but Overlord (2018) is not the typical D-Day kind of film. It is set on that real historical event, but what happens in the film depicts another kind of horror. American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment. Is this some kind of hybrid between Saving Private Ryan (1998), The Thing (1982) and Resident Evil (2002)? Well, if so sounds pretty appetizing, no?
Overlord (2018) will have its worldwide premiere at Fantastic Fest in September, and will finally reach theaters in November. And here is the first trailer for us to enjoy:
