A smoke seller for some, an essential visionary for others, but it is for sure that every time M. Night Shyamalan puts out a movie we are going to be in front of one strange story with a plot twist and an original start-point. The India-born filmmaker and in the last years he is accustoming us to one memorable production per year. And after the horror and fantasy Glass (2019), Old (2021), and the TV series Servant (2019– ), next year we’ll see the release of his new horror and mystery thriller Knock at the Cabin (2023).
The movie is the cinematographic adaptation of the novel The Cabin at the End of the World, written by Paul Tremblay and the winner of the Horror Writers Association‘s Bram Stoker Award for Novel in 2019. The movie centers on a family of three who while vacationing at a remote cabin is taken hostage by four strangers who demand they make the ultimate sacrifice to avert the apocalypse.
In the novel, a gay couple named Andrew and Eric and their adopted daughter, Wen, are taking a vacation in a secluded cabin in New Hampshire. Their dwelling is invaded by four strangers named Redmond, Leonard, Sabrina, and Adriane who take the family captive and tell them that, to prevent the upcoming apocalypse, one of them must be killed by the others.
The screenplay for the adaptation is co-written by the producer and director M. Night Shyamalan together with Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman, who were responsible for the horror and science-fiction short film Monsters (2015) winner of several awards including two CCI:IFF Awards at the San Diego Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival and the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay in a Short Film at the Molins Film Festival.
The main cast for Knock at the Cabin (2023) is formed by Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Rupert Grint, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Abby Quinn, and Kristen Cui.
M. Night Shyamalan has been responsible for a good handful of science-fiction and horror movies that are essential to understand modern cinema, including The Sixth Sense (1999), Unbreakable (2000), Signs (2002), The Village (2004), and The Happening (2008). And, yet, the recent release of the first trailer for his upcoming movie was his “watched trailer of my career”, as he thanked on his official Twitter account, a social media network where he is pretty active.

Knock at the Cabin (2023) is coming out in theaters worldwide on February 3, 2023. It is produced by M. Night Shyamalan via his brand Blinding Edge Pictures, alongside FilmNation Entertainment, Wishmore Entertainment, and Perfect World Pictures. Universal Pictures is distributing.
