The San Diego Comic-Con took place last weekend. For all the enthusiasts of comic books and superhero films, the event is one of the most important ones happening every year in order to meet up with fellow fans but also to greet face to face some of the most renowned personas in the industry. But not only it is an event for the lovers of magic and heroes in spandex uniform, but it is also one of the key weekends of the year where the big studios can share a sneak peek of their upcoming cinematographic hit titles. This year, besides uncountable superhero flicks, the Comic-Con has seen the release of the first and long-awaited trailer for John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).
We still have to wait until next year to see again Keanu Reeves in the shoes of what is probably already the most iconic role of his entire career. And let’s not forget that this guy has been in hit titles like Point Break (1991), Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), Speed (1994), The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008), has played the title characters in Johnny Mnemonic (1995) and Constantine (2005), and is Neo and Ted in The Matrix and Bill & Ted franchises.
Not much is known about the plot of the 4th entry of the John Wick saga, but what everybody knows is that it will follow the continuity of events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019). In fact, Jon Feltheimer, the CEO of Lionsgate, distributors of the films, confirmed that a fifth film was being developed alongside John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), to which Keanu Reeves stated that he will continue making sequels, as long as the films are successful.
Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane are reprising their roles from the previous movies, with the attractive addition of Donnie Yen (The IP Man saga), Bill Skarsgård (Pennywise in the new IT movies), Scott Adkins (The Expendables 2 (2012)), Clancy Brown (Starship Troopers (1997), A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)), Hiroyuki Sanada (Army of the Dead (2021), The Wolverine (2013), Sunshine (2007)), and Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks in the Harry Potter saga). Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama, and Marko Zaror complete the main cast.
Chad Stahelski is back to the director’s chair, a spot where he has been present the entire saga. The screenplay is written by Michael Finch, known for the scripts of Predators (2010), The November Man (2014), and Hitman: Agent 47 (2015), and Shay Hatten, who debuted with the screenplay of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), which followed his work in Army of the Dead (2021) and Army of Thieves (2021).
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) is expected to come out worldwide on March 24, 2023. Watch here its first trailer.
