One of the most celebrated science-fiction and fantasy movies of the last 2 years has been, without a doubt, Denis Villeneuve’s grandiloquent vision of Dune. His film Dune (2021) was acclaimed by critics and audiences and even achieved multiple awards, including most of the technical categories in the 2022 Oscars like Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, Best Original Score (Hans Zimmer), and Best Film Editing. And, although the story of Dune (2021) was left on a cliffhanger, we all knew that the second installment was in the works.
Dune: Part Two (2023) is set for a theatrical release on November 3, 2023, and it is called to be one of the most exciting titles of the winter season this year.
In Dune (2021) we saw the demise of the characters performed by Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and David Dastmalchian, but many of the main stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, and Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban Harkonnen are reprising their roles.
Dune: Part Two (2023) is also introducing a series of new characters including Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan Corrino, and Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot.
As with Dune (2021), Dune: Part Two (2023) is based on the 1965 novel Dune written by Frank Herbert, and that has become an essential title in modern fantasy and science-fiction literature having been the object of many adaptations (including the underrated movie Dune (1984) by David Lynch), TV series books, and graphic novels.
Dune: Part Two (2023) is written by Denis Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts, nominated for the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for Dune (2021), and also the writer of The Darkest Hour (2011), Prometheus (2012), Doctor Strange (2016), Passengers (2016), and The Mummy (2017).
Legendary Pictures is producing, and Hans Zimmer is in charge of composing the music again. Warner Bros. Pictures has released now the first official trailer for Dune: Part Two (2023) where one can see the epic and the fights continue in the deserts of planet Arrakis to win the war against the oppressive House Harkonnen.
