A Quiet Place (2018) was one of the most successful titles in horror of last year, and it became a favorite for not only the followers of the genre but also the wide audience. The movie followed the adventures of a family who is forced to live in silence while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing in a post-apocalyptic world. The movie, produced by Michael Bay’s banner Platinum Dunes in association with Paramount Pictures, was also a profitable hit grossing worldwide more than $130 million in exchange for the $13 million budget.
With those numbers, and the co-writer, director and star of the show John Krasinski mentioning that the story still has a lot more to share, one doesn’t need to be Nostradamus to deduct that a sequel would soon be on the way. Talks for a sequel began in April 2018, and by August 2018, Krasinski was writing the film, and he was hired in February 2019 to direct. For the sequel, Platinum Dunes and Paramount Pictures are also producing, and John Krasinski has written the screenplay solo based on the events of the original story created by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. Krasinski and Allyson Seeger remain executive producers.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020) follows the events happening in the original A Quiet Place (2018). In the new movie, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path. Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe reprising their roles from the first film. Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou also star in supporting roles.
In June 2019, production began on the sequel. Filming officially commenced on July 15, 2019. Filming took place throughout Upstate New York, including Erie County and one of its villages, Akron. Other locations included the city of North Tonawanda and the hamlet of Olcott in Niagara County, and Barcelona Harbor in the town of Westfield in Chautauqua County. By late September, production was finished.
Paramount Pictures plans to release A Quiet Place: Part II (2020) in theaters, including Dolby Cinema and IMAX, on March 20, 2020. A 30-second teaser trailer for the movie previewed before select theatrical screenings of Black Christmas (2019), which was released on December 13, 2019. Now, the teaser trailer is available online and you can watch it here. A full trailer will be released on January 1, 2020.
