Almost 20 have taken the producers to decide to carry on with the sequel for Deep Blue Sea (1999). This little b-movie jewel from the end of the last century was directed by Renny Harlin before he started his downfall to oblivion. And it is now, the golden era of Video on Demand and awful monster movies, when Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018) will see the light.
This time, good old Renny Harlin is not involved in the project. He is too busy in China where he has developed his last set of movies, including Legend of the Ancient Sword (2018) expected this year. Darin Scott, a veteran in straight to video and TV movies filmmaker, has been in charge of the direction for Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018). The script has been authored by Erik Patterson, Hans Rodionoff and Jessica Scott. Danielle Savre, Michael Beach, Rob Mayes, Lily Spangenberg, Darron Meyer, Nathan Lynn and Kim Syster star the movie.
If in the original movie a group of scientist was on an isolated research facility altering the DNA of sealife species in order to find a cure to Alzheimer’s disease, this time it’s a brilliant billionaire who is experimenting on bull sharks. The scientific community doesn’t agree with the methods used by the wealthy philanthropist and soon a group of other researchers and activists confront him and his activities.
Syfy has been in charge of the development of this new movie that will be a straight to Video on Demand product. Filming took place in Cape Town, South Africa. The movie has given a R-Rating, which means it is fair to count on a good dose of gore and violence in it. Release date is expected to be somewhere around July 2018.
