How far would you go to solve the mystery of the murder of your loved ones? Would you embrace your own death, even if it is only staged? Because this young lady takes that morbid step, only things won’t go as she expected.

In the horror thriller Play Dead (2022), criminology student Chloe fakes her own death to break into a morgue, in order to retrieve a piece of evidence that ties her younger brother to a crime gone wrong. Once inside, she quickly learns that the fearsome Coroner uses the morgue as a front for a sick and twisted business. As a frightening game of cat and mouse ensues, she will discover that the scariest thing about the morgue is not the dead, but the living.

This is the new movie by director Patrick Lussier, known for being behind the horror titles The Prophecy 3: The Ascent (2000), Dracula 2000 (2000), Dracula II: Ascension (2003), Dracula III: Legacy (2005), White Noise 2: The Light (2007), My Bloody Valentine (2009), Trick (2019), and some episodes of the TV series Scream: The TV Series (2015–2019), Into the Dark (2018–2021), and The Purge (2018–2019). Simon Boyes and Adam Mason, who has been the writers in Into the Dark (2018–2021) as well as the movies Songbird (2020) and The Visitor (2022), have been the writers of the screenplay for Play Dead (2022).

Bailee Madison (Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (2010), The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)) plays the concerned criminology student while Jerry O’Connell (Scream 2 (1997), Piranha 3D (2010)) is the wicked Coroner. Anthony Turpel, Sterling Beaumon, Chris Butler, and Lestonja Diaz complete the main cast.
