The Dark Red (2018) is a horror thriller about a young woman who is committed to a psychiatric hospital and claims her newborn was stolen by a dark cult. It is the new work from Dan Bush, known for the horror and science-fiction oriented films The Vault (2017), The Reconstruction of William Zero (2014) and The Signal (2007). Like all these titles, it has been written by the director together with his frequent collaborator Conal Byrne, who also has a role in the film.

In the movie, Sybil is being held against her will in a psychiatric ward because her claims are extreme. She says her newborn baby was kidnapped by a secret society to harvest its supernatural blood. She says the ancient bloodline has great powers, and it lets you hear other people’s thoughts. And she begs the doctors to let her go so she can rescue her child from the cult’s dungeons. Is she telling the truth, or is it just mere delusion?

April Billingsley, Kelsey Scott, Conal Byrne, Rhoda Griffis, John Curran, and Jill Jane Clements form the main cast. The Dark Red (2018) premiered at the Austin Film Festival last year, and this month will also be part of the line-up of FrightFest in London. After that, it is set for a release in 2020.
