It is fair to say Cocaine Bear (2023) has already become one of the happy surprises of 2023, not only because it is becoming a little cult title worshipped by an already legion of fans worldwide but because also financially since its opening weekend it has already has grossed over its entire budget. The horror comedy directed by Elizabeth Banks narrates how an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens who converge on a Georgia forest must face a huge black bear that goes on a murderous rampage after unintentionally ingesting cocaine.
And this is candy for the people from The Asylum, because if the kings of mockbusters released their personal versions of hit titles like The Da Vinci Treasure (2006), Transmorphers (2007), Titanic II (2010), Android Cop (2014), Independents’ Day (2016), Headless Horseman (2022), and Battle for Pandora (2022), revisiting something like Cocaine Bear (2023) the creators of the Sharknado franchise play at home.
It is the turn for Attack of the Meth Gator (2023). Not much has been shared about the plot of the movie, but via Twitter The Asylum revealed that “This is real! We’re pumping the meth into Floridas fresh water reserves as we speak!”. Of course, this already sounds as real as plausible. We’re in!
Apparently, the story is slightly based on real facts, as there exist reports from the Tennessee police departments in 2019 that they were scared people flushing meth down toilets could result in local gators ingesting the drug.
Attack of the Meth Gator (2023) is currently in production and is expected to arrive on DVD and digital platforms soon in 2023. Christopher Ray, who has been behind some of the most notorious The Asylum like Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus (2010), Almighty Thor (2011), 2-Headed Shark Attack (2012), Shark Week (2012), Asteroid vs Earth (2014), Mega Shark vs. Kolossus (2015), and 3-Headed Shark Attack (2015), is directing with a screenplay by Lauren Pritchard and Joe Roche, the writers of 4 Horsemen: Apocalypse (2022), Moon Crash (2022), Planet Dune (2021), and Robot Apocalypse (2021).
Ray Acevedo, Tristen Amason, Christopher Applegate, Arlene Lagos, Gus Langley, LaRonn Marzett, Stuart Maxheimer, Benjamin L. Newmark, Bruce Peoples, Robbie Rist, and Vanesa Tamayo star in Attack of the Meth Gator (2023).
Hold our bear… I mean, beer.
