The season where we are getting the streets and decoration motives filled up with Santa Claus is getting closer and closer, and before we realize we will be already submerged in it. At least, in the terms of Christmas horror movies, the machinery is already in motion. We have already had Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s The Killing Tree (2022) [read our review here] out for a while, Tommy Wirkola’s Violent Night (2022) just hit theaters, and Joe Begos’ Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022) is just around the corner.
Another season title that is about to come out is the Christmas horror anthology The Christmas Tapes (2022), centering around a family’s movie night on Christmas Eve that is interrupted by a stranger, insistent on making the next Christmas ‘classic’ film himself.
This is the new movie of the tandem of producers, writers, and directors formed by Robert Livings and Randy Nundlall Jr., who after a few short films joined forces to develop the feature films The Other Girl (2020) and Infrared (2022).
Veteran Vernon Wells, better known for his works in 1980s classics The Road Warrior (1981), Commando (1985), Weird Science (1985), and Innerspace (1987), and a very prolific actor nowadays, plays the role of Santa in a cast that also includes Greg Sestero, Dave Sheridan, Janice Angela Burt, Larry Glenn, Louise Harding, Ian Hopps, Jason Kuykendall, Dominic Laurente, Robert Livings, Todd Lubitsch, Caleb Lush, Romulo Reyes, Lori Richardson, Joshua Rose, Ruby Setnik, and Devin Valdez.
The Christmas Tapes (2022) is scheduled for a digital release on December 12, 2022, including on Amazon Prime Video, distributed by Terror Films. Watch its official trailer here.
